Fraid mutt won't do. It's not how popular it is. Heck it's not even
about cli... While I'm more comfortable with a cli interface than an
icon driven one the REQUIRES my to use the rodent as a primary input
device. I'm quite happy with a more interactive form of keyboard
control. That is, besides composing equations for the actual command line...

Actually I LIKE pine's hot key menu operation with on screen hints as
which key does what, for when I'm having a brain flatulation.  And I'm
used to it... If I can't get it for ubuntu, I'll never use it for my
mail... Which means I'll never spend enough time actually using it.

But the issue wasn't that the official apt-get sources can't supply it
due to the NON-gnu nature of it's licensing.

The issue was that I was unable to "build" the tarball... do to errors I
didn't understand. 

The licensing issue is nearly why I need to use the tarball...

But thanks for the suggestion.
