Where in the (universe?) is a package containing mc??? [midnight commander]

Have a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AddingRepositoriesHowto. mc is in
the universe repository. After you enabled that, you can simply do

   sudo apt-get install mc

and you'll be fine.
