It would appear that on Dec 11, Mike Bird did say:

Especially if they still use those other distros right???
Actually I've bumped into just enough (and given that I want KDE for my
OPTIONAL gui, that I'm downloading the kubuntu version and will see if I
do better following some advice I got for NON-expert admins to use the
expert mode install... Overwriting my 1st attempt at ubuntu... (course
I've saved a log of most the changes I've made to make it a little more
bearable but we shall see how many of them relate to gnome rather than
other philosophical differences with the ubuntu security team... <grin>

Yeah, well If I ever had to admin (or even login to) remote *nix systems
I'd have bothered to get used to ssh (beyond laboriously cobbling together
a small script to remember how to login to a Unix shell I had at UML for
some basic Unix course {probably "intro to" <grin>} I once took...)
:r ~/bin2nd/off/ssh_uml
echo " rem: its the password for user jphil982 it wants... [duh!]"
echo
ssh jphil982 at ce.uml.edu
And usually it meant I did the most the real work locally and used this
one a lot.
:r ~/bin2nd/off/sftp_uml
echo " rem: its the password for user jphil982 it wants... [duh!]"
echo
sftp jphil982 at ce.uml.edu
Which most always meant I had another konsole open with '$ man sftp' So
that I wouldn't screw up. And another running mc in the same directory
from which I fired up the two scripts...
