It's bloody annoying for sysadmins switching from other distros but once
one has been enlightened its easy enough to set a root password and use
Ubuntu like regular distros.
BTW, in response to an earlier point you made, I use konsole where one
can readily configure different colored backgrounds for root sessions,
and even define new session types which automatically start by ssh-ing
to a different system. When my KDE desktop comes up it has terminal
windows running shells on the three key systems from which I sysadmin
the rest.
