root password...[ubuntu 5.10 installation issues]

Thanks for the prompt reply Magnus If I understand you, all I need to do
(since there is no way I'm switching all my habits from "su -" to
"sudo" on my PERSONAL PC) is to:

	1) log in as that said generic (and very temporary) user I fed
	   to the installer.
	2) open a terminal and do a '$ sudo /bin/bash'
	   (using that said generic logins password)

	3) then using the sudo initialized  root permission shell do a
	   '# passwd root' to assign the root password I wanted to
	   give the installer in the 1st place.
	4) reboot and see if I can now login as root to configure my
	   system. And if so do a '# echo " " > /etc/sudoers-file'
	   to eliminate any chance of sudo haunting me unless and until
	   I myself decide to use it.

Would that work? Or do really have to become familiar with the contents
of the /etc/sudoers-file so that I can edit it in a meaningfully
disabling way?

And are there any other steps to properly re-enabling the root account
besides resetting the password?
