This is probably true. There are entirely too many rc files for the 
different shells, based on whether or not a shell is an interactive 
shell and/or a login shell. To wit: .profile, .bashrc, .bash_profile are 
all used by bash, .profile is also used by ksh, zsh and sh, and probably 
others... so on and so forth. I gave up trying to determine which (if 
any) of them my current context (whether script or interactive shell) 
parsed, and have had only one file and a couple symlinks for years.
