I found that the other night also, or something similar. I grabbed
the drivers off of the matrox site and have them installed and
working just fine. I went through the xorg.0.log and it shows the
mga_hal driver also loading fine, along with dri. BUT running the
glxinfo test still shows dri is not enabled. (?)
I also read that having Option "Xinerama" "on" can have a ill effect
on dri. Tried it both ways, but it doesn't seem to matter. I do know
that adding the Option "AGPMode" "4" under the section Device does
work. This issue has been around a number of years now. What
happens is that it puts the AGP card into 2x by default... you have
to force it to 4x.
As far as DVI output, mine has VGA also.
I really think this might boil down to compiling a custom kernel.
I'll have to grab the source and see how it's setup, specifically the
mga options and such.
