upgrading kernel in VMware Virtual machine of dapper kills the VM

Yes, I have exactly the same problem, 500% identical problem !
It's good to know that it's not just me then.
Like you I don't know much technically, but I assume it's a VMWare
problem, because when I updated my "real" copy of Dapper (I installed it
in VMWare/Breezy, but also on a second hard drive, for real world
experiments), everything went smoothly, there were no problems
whatsoever.
