If you stick with AMD, good thing to do imho, you will get a 64/32 bit cpu. 
The newerAMD's run 32 bit OS & 64 bit equally well for many situations. Not 
sure but AMD might not be making a pure 32 bit cpu anymore.


As for hardware there are many good choices, the only caveat is buying 
hardware not supported by Linux, still possible to do, so some research is 
advisable.
