While it is possible to use Kino for this, it may not be what you want
because conversions will take a long time and use a lot of disk space.
First, you will have to create heavy (~27.5 Mb/s) DV files, edit, and
then convert to MPEG-2 (~8 Mb/s). If all you want to do is minor cleanup
editing, try Avidemux2 (http://www.avidemux.org/), which can read the
native nuv files. Avidemux2 has good DVD MPEG output as well. If you
need a little more advanced editing, then consider Kino. The newest
release of Kino, 0.8.0, can import now to automate the conversion to
DV. For older versions, you will have to manually use mencoder to convert
the nuv to some intermediate format that ffmpeg likes, and then use
ffmpeg to make DV. Here is Kino's shell script used for the import
using such approach:
