Not being able to look at your /etc/xorg.conf (it appears to be a binary
file of zero size) I would guess that it specifies the "ati" driver in
the device section. Try changing that to "vesa".

If that works, you at least have a running X server while finding out
why exactly the "ati" driver isn't working...
