Did you update the kernel? If not, you should take care, that your system is
not overheating because some fans are not working anymore, or some
components especially cpu and memory are damaged. Maybe you should run the
memory-test from grub and let a temperature monitor run within ubuntu, if
your system has some sensors available (lm-sensors is the ubuntu-package
with the needed tools).

So let's get a step back. First tell me on which platform you are running
ubuntu. Type "uname -a" at the terminal and send me the output.
