if you can not mount in RW but only in R, the osx partition, you need to
reboot in OSX and check the partition with diskutility.app because at
the momento there are not a fsck.hfsplus utility. This exist only for
darwin i think, but the port to linux has not been ended yet.

in this moment i'm using thunderbird form linux (debian/sarge-ppc) in my
tibook. The folder containig the emails (mailboxes), are in the OSX
partition, so i can use Thinderbird both from linux or OSX using the
same mailbox. :-)
