Pinning and backports

Is there some easy way of achieving the following in APT?
- Have backports in source.list
- Keep the system mainly on Hoary (i.e. I don't want 'apt-get upgrade'
to pull in all the backports packages)
- Still get all the security updates for Hoary
I used to have the following line in /etc/apt/apt.conf:
APT::Default-Release "hoary";
but then I realised that it prevented me from getting all the security
updates for Hoary (which is REALLY strange, I think). So that won't
satisfy my requirements.
I was thinking along the lines of pinning on Hoary+(security), letting
backports have lower priority than Hoary(+security). It's just that I'm
not that fluent in pinning :(
Any help would be appreciated.

Hint to the Mac user: When talking to a Windows user, be sure to
always adopt a condescending tone. If you have trouble with this, ask
a Unix user.
