updated Hoary kernel doesn't boot?

I was just sitting here thinking the same: It's been a while, but I can
swear that earlier, this was the case - at least when I ran Hoary before
it was considered stable. And since this is good behaviour, I'm also
sure I didn't change this. Is this something that has been changed in
the system, or was it that it failed miserably this upgrade? Earlier,
as I recall, kernels disappeared from boot menu when I manually deleted
them, and all kernels were kept in synaptic. Now they just seem to be
gone... :-/
