Recent breezy kernels not booting

Anyone else having issues booting recent kernels in breezy? I can use
linux-image version 2.6.12-6.6, but anything newer will fail to boot
complaining about not finding a volume group (much like the problem
described here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=56119), even
though I'm not even using LVM.

I've had this happen on both machines I've tried breezy on, my desktop and
a Compaq laptop (which I've posted about recently).
