No Sound

Hi

can somebody tell me where Ubuntu stores its Alsa specific conf file
(usually /etc/modules.conf)

It says in ALSA page it should be in /etc/modutils but I don't have
one in that directory.

I am trying to work out if I should have one there and that is the
problem.
