Mounting and opening NTFS Drive

My hda1 drive in Storage Media is the Windows drive. I can mount it but it 
will not open.  In Properties is shows user: root/Group: root. How can I 
change permissions on the drive so I can open it  and access the files while 
in Linux/Ubuntu?
