mkinitrd fails: cannot find lvm device

I don't have RAID or LVM installed (at least I'm not aware of it) but I
ran into the same problem when trying to install
linux-image-2.6.10-5-k7. The problem was that I edited /etc/fstab so
that devices are not specified with the device name /dev/hdaX but via
ext2/3 partition labels using the LABEL=XYZ construct. Obviously,
Ubuntu's mkinitrd doesn't understand this. So I changed this for the
root partition back to its device name, and the package installed
without problems.
