Java in ubuntu

I've recently installed unbuntu ... switching from Mandrake.

A major problem I'm having ... which may cause me to switch back ... is
that I can't get my development project to build properly in ubuntu. It
builds under Mandrake, Fedora Core 4, Debian (Sarge) and, of course,
Windows. I'd prefer to use ubuntu in my home enviroment if possible,
but I do need to do work at home on occassion ... this is an 18 month
long project and I'd like to be away from the office as much as
possible to be productive.

I'm running JKD 1.5 and Maven for the build tool. What happens is that
the bulld fails with a

<ant:genkey> Execute failed: java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException:
keytool: not found

keytool is in the JDK, it should be found. I've used apt-get to get
the JDK -- had the problem ... then I uninstalled the JDK ... cleared
it from the archive, downloaded the .bin from Sun and created my own
.deb, installed that ... same problem.

Any help would be highly appreciated!
