No sound on Intel ICH6-card

I have a motherboard with the same chip set and could not get the sound
to work. I ended up installing a cheap PCI sound card as a solution
(only because I happened to have one lying around in a cupboard).

I read somewhere that support for this is supposed to be included in the
version of Alsa that comes with Hoary but for some reason, the modules
have been left out of the distribution.

I'd be very interested in any solution to this one.

Regards,
Tony.
