Hey Trevor,

I'm cutting in the middle of this thread without reading everything related,
sorry about that. I did read the page you linked, and noticed that you are
using Hoary with X.org, and had tried XFree86 with Warty, but not the
combination that I'm using, that is Hoary with XFree86. Dunno why, and
haven't tried afterwards, but that's how I got it working. X.org had some
problems which lead into DRI not loading. No freeze nor anything, 2D worked
but no 3D. After changing to XFree86 3D began to work.

Hope this helps, and isn't telling something you already knew or don't want
to use.
