Package repositories for amd64

I am currently running 2 installations of Ubuntu on an Amd 64 3000
machine. One for i386 and one for x64. On the i386 partiton  I am able
to install flash (non-free) and openoffice2. On the x64 installation
neither work or are available. These aren't the only packages that
aren't working in amd64, only the ones that I can think of right now.

Can anyone tell me how to install a package on amd64 that is compiled
for i386. This should be possible since the x64 machine should emulate
an i386 box. I would rather not have to reboot to run OpenOffice2.
