You should look to see if that software is already packaged for Ubuntu.
You may either use the synaptic package manager and search for  the
package (If it is exotic software, you may need to enable the universe
package repository - There is something like 10000 packages there!)



You may also just go to 

packages.ubuntu.com

and make use of the package search feature.





Otherwise, you can get an RPM (package made for RedHat) to install in
Ubuntu by using alien

sudo alien -i <package.rpm>

But that may cause problems.  Can you be more specific about what
packages you are looking for?
