hmm...This doesn't match my experience, but I do have
an interesting tidbit to add. I used to have M$Office
_and_ OpenOffice installed on my XP. Then my HD
crashed. New drive, new XP install, Ubuntu
install...hmmm...I decided to experiment with just
using OpenOffice. So far no problems, but one
peculiarity. Without OfficeXP installed, OpenOffice
(and almost everything else) opens much more quickly
in XP. Whatever the overhead OfficeXP adds to enable
its "quickloading" features must be pretty costly (at
least on my setup).
P.S. I never found OfficeXP loaded that quickly
anyway. ::shrug:: Makes no difference to me now, I
have no use for that behemoth on my HD.
P.P.S. One of the reasons I finally got into Linux was
the Knoppix distro that came with Marcel Gagné's
_Moving to Linux: Kiss the Blue Screen of Death
Goodbye!_ Which, oddly enough, ran faster from the CD
than XP did from my HD.
Anyway, good luck.
