I second that. Although Linux/Gnome is not always super responsive, it
does however seem to behave in a very consistent and predictable manner,
and copes very well with "complicated" situations. Like recording raw
video from XawTV, ie dumping bags of data on the disk constantly,
working like hell and super noisy, and find the desktop is still 100%
responsive, you can switch workspace, switch app, browse the web etc, in
all smoothness... I was pretty impressed :-)
So my Penguin may not be as fast as Windoze, but at least, I can trust
him, he will get the job done, it won't get overwhelmed and/or crash on
me...
That was my EUR 0.02 ;-)
