Problem closing laptop lid.

Hello.

I don't know why, but, when I close laptop's screen X seems to die (I get a 
blank screen with top left blinking cursor).

I'd like only DPMS to start when I close the laptop, because neither suspend 
to disk nor suspend to RAM works.

My laptop is a Compaq presario 920 with Radeon IGP 320M (a.k.a. Radeon 
Mobility U1).

Does anybody know where could I change the lid closing event to activate only 
DPMS?
