Where is a PATH corrupted under the GNOME

IIRC you set your path for GNOME in the GDM configuration files found in
the /etc/gdm (?) directory....
(Yes this sucks as everyone expects them to be in /etc/profile.blah or
your local .bashrc file) I'm not sure how this situation fits with other
desktop environments (KDE? E? WMaker?, XFCE?)
