Problems setting up printer

I have a Lexmark Optra E laser printer and I am having 'fun' trying to set
it up. I'm using Kubuntu at the moment, but since it's using CUPS just like
ubuntu, I figured that if ever I switch over to just Ubuntu I would need to
find the answer to this problem anyway.

My problem is that no matter what driver I chose for the printer, when I try
to test a print page, all I get is multiple pages with a single line of
garbage on each page. I cannot stop the printer from printing the pages
without shutting it down and rebooting the system. On other distros, I
could get the printer to work, but often times the test page would just keep
on printing. Any help would be appreciated.
