Iep mate ! Have you try Gimp ? something similar to photoshop (also it
works with photoshop filters, [I THINK, i'm not sure since i work more
with code than with images])
For Code... Ubuntu comes with one tool that doesn't work really really
well (i have experienced some hungs) but it's not bad (Screem) and also
there is another really good web editors as Quanta or NVU that are
really nice. Actually i use quanta.
So you don't need to use windows if you don't like (thing that i
understand ;).
I'm looking for any FruityLoops like for linux, or to know if somebody
has run it with wine. 
Also, if somebody who loves make his own music with computer and works
with linux can tell me any nice application to do that... wonderfull !!!
