Verizon DSL and Ubuntu?

Hi David,
I don't have Verizon, but your Westel is most likely running NAT and
assigning IP address information via DHCP. All that to say you should
be able to plugin your DSL phone line into the DSL port, an ethernet
cable into any of the Ethernet ports and you should be OK.
Read the documentation. I have Comcast, and they required I install
Windows software and "activate" my connection. The documentation they
provided will indicate if they have something similar. Another issue
you may have is Verizon may use PPPoE, They might have included a
username and password in your documentation for this purpose.
If you are planning on using the wireless I've used my laptops
internal Intel Pro/2100 and a Cisco AiroNet 350(PCI) without problems
with Ubuntu.
Hope this helps,
Mike Smith
