With Gentoo (and I would do the same with Windows, generally I always
do this) I always had disk images saved (for example with partimage)
and was able to restore a running system much faster than in 30
minutes. The installation itself (not for Gentoo, but with Windows or
other binary distros) isn't that time consuming in most cases, it's the
configuration.
