./configure for shn plugin for xmms fails

I'm getting a message that GTK+ is not installed ( or that it can't find 
  GTK_CONFIG file) I'm thinking (and I may be wrong here) that what is 
needed is gtk+-devel tools, but a search in synaptic isn't finding that 
package.

Do I need another repository added?... or do I donwload the file from 
somewhere else?.... or am I on the wrong track altogether?
