recommendation for best tv video card?

Both tvtime and xawtv support v4l, if tvtime works, then xawtv will work
and vice versa. I am discussing basic TV not recording capablity as that
would require another piece of software to be enabled. tvtime does not
support recording and I believe xawtv does.

Many of the bttv and saa173x card will work as far as basic TV watching
goes. The FM tuner on the saa173x cards may or may not work. For
example, the Asus card I am using requires one line of code in the
saa713x source to be modified and then re-compiled. I did just that on
FC2, but the source will not recompile with Ubuntu kernel right now.

Also, as I mentiioned in a recent thread, there is a problem right not
on Ubuntu with both tvtime and xawtv dropping frames. Since March 23
2005, I have had to swtich to using mplayer to watch tv , using
"mplayerTV".

All I am saying is that there are many video4linux cards that will work
"out of the box" with little effort. Many will work when booting Knoppix
and then starting "tvtime". If there is not a video4linux driver for the
card, then you will have to find another driver, if there is one, and
struggle with it.

After struggle with ATI's AIW series of non-video4linux capable cards,
I now take the easy road with v4l supported cards and recommend others
do likewise.
