Hoary Upgrade - Unable to start Gnome

Thank you to both Eamonn & Sebastian who suggested ubuntu-base and 
ubuntu-destop needed to be installed.

Unfortunately I had meant to mention in my original email that this was 
one of the fixes I tried.

Any other suggestions?
