Quoting Rimas <rmocius at auste.elnet.lt>:

Open root terminal and launch a command:
   # apt-cache search nVidia
APT will report you all packages which you need to install. Thera are set of
kernel updates: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.10-5. You need to install only one
of them (select it using kernel version and processor type). Perhaps it is
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.10-5-amd64-generic.
Do installation from character console and shut down X-windows before the
installation:
  1) click Ctrl+Alt+F1
  2) login
  3) launch a commands
         $ sudo su-
         # invoke-rc.d GDM stop
         #apt-get install ....
Make a copy of files: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf", "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"
 Reconfigure X-server:
        #dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
and restart it:
        #invoke-rc.d GDM start
nVidia splash should be visible.
