tvtime locks machine solid

I have been fighting random freezes (hard freezes) of my dual athlon rig
for a while with little assistance from others because very few people
have duals, or at least very few have trouble that they report with
duals. I think (knock on wood) I have solved my troubles. I have yet to
upgrade to hoary (I'm on warty), but the measures that I have
implemented are these:

disable AIC7xxx (scsi controller, onboard on my tyan thunder k7)
upgrade to backported 2.6.10 kernel WITHOUT inotify
in bios revert MPS mode to 1.1 instead of default 1.4

Quite honestly I think the fix was provided by the last change. I am not
sure if you have this option in your bios, but give it a try.
