How to Cure Fuzzy Xorg Display?

I just installed Ubuntu 5.04. When GDM starts the display is fuzzy, out 
of focus and 640x480 is the only resolution available in Gnome. I fired 
up dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and went through the 'Advanced' display 
setup, entering my horiz and vert resolutions (30-63 and 56-76). Reboot 
-- the same problems. I fixed this in the previous install with the 
reconfigure, but this time it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.
