Hi everyone. I have a pretty bad problem. I'm currently writing on my
diploma thesis and already have written more than 100 pages. I did
backup my work, but not unfortunately no backup was made for the last
week.

Anyway, I rebooted my box today and suddenly each and every file and all
the directories I had on my Desktop disappeared. First, I thought that I
moved them unintentionally somehwere (Trash for example), but
[snip]
sudo updatedb,
sudo locate *.tex |grep dipl (where dipl is part of the filename of my
diploma-thesis)
[/snip]
didn't return any results. Now I start sweating, I've done quite a lot
of work the last week and have no fucking backup.

Anyone with a tip for me how to possibly recover lost data? Are there
any tools, scripts or programms available for this? I'm even willing to
try some windows programs, anything... The filesystem on my hd is ext3
by the way.

I'd be really, really glad if someone may have some (good) news for
me...

Thanks in advance,
Bernhard
