My 800 MHz G3 iBook gives perfectly acceptable video playback, so I 
don't think this is a hardware issue.

Many laptops are difficult to work on, but the iBook seems 
particularly challenging.  I have never opened mine, but I have looked 
at online howtos/tutorials; replacing the harddrive seems like a long 
and tedious process.

I hope my harddrive lasts as long as I care to keep the laptop.
