5KB/s ? Sounds odd. I'm still maxing out my 1Mbit connection. Maybe it's
a matter of location, but here in the UK speeds are normal.

I like synaptic too. I'm a newbie, and it makes it very easy for me,
what with the searching and the keeping track of packages installed in
different ways etc. Hope all goes well with your upgrade, you'll love
