Hoary release candidate live does not shutdown properly

The hoary-rc-live-i386 does not shutdown properly on a
Dell inspiron 8100 laptop.

On choosing 'shutdown' from the graphical logout menu the
shutdown proceeds till the cdrom drive tray opens and then it
hangs there at the following text:
 umount: none busy - remounted read only
 *Shutting down LVM Volume Groups
There is some more partially garbled text which I can't read.

I have to remove the battery to switch off the power.

Anybody else experience something like this?
