Windows partition desktop icon disappearing

Hi,

I have a dual boot WinXP / Ubuntu Hoary latest computer. I put the 
WinXP partition into the fstab, following the unofficial guide, and 
everything works fine, except:
When I start up, sometimes there's an icon on the desktop for the 
windows partition, but when I log out and back in, it vanishes.
At other times, after starting up, there's no icon.

I can't work out a pattern to all this.

Is anyone else seeing anything similar?
