No media icon on start

Hello

It appears that if a CD/DVD is already present in the drive when
Ubuntu starts, then there is no icon on the desktop.

But on ejecting the CD/DVD and reinserting, the icon appears on the desktop.

Funnily, I DO NOT have this problem with my compact flash card reader !

Any idea what is the problem and how it can be resolved ?

Let me know if you need any debug trace. Please provide me with the
appropriate instructions.
