Ubuntu and Fonts

First off -- this looks like it'll be an awesome distribution. Thanks to
everyone at Canonical for their hard work!

My question concerns fonts. One of the annoying things about Debian is the
limited number of fonts they supply. I realize that there are licensing and
distribution problems, but I notice that Ubuntu comes with a lot more fonts
-- including some "standard" Postscript ones (including Palatino, Times, etc)
in addition to the open source license-free ones (Vera, etc.).

How did Ubuntu get a license for these fonts? I think it's excellent that
they did; it really improves the user experience.

Thanks!
