How to deactivate the wireless lan card

I have completely removed the wireless interface from Computer->System  
Configuration->Networking, but the wireless indicator LED on my Notebook  
(Maxdata Pro 8000X) just glows. There is a (hardware-) button next to the  
LED, but if I press it, nothing happens, The LED still glows. I think  
there must be a way to disable the wireless card completely...
