Please send the output of the "amixer" command and perhaps this can be
fixed.  The existing code seems to correctly set a default volume level for
most cards, but apparently not all.

You'll need to reconfigure the X server to allow the new resolution; the
instructions on the wiki do not account for the situation where you might
want to adjust the resolution at the same time.

There is a little dance that is necessary to force it to re-probe your
hardware and write a new configuration file, overwriting the one that you
have edited; I am not sure where it is documented at the moment.
