/usr on USB

The short story is it doesn't work.

The long story is hard to determine, and I don't know what caused what.

Hotplug failed because it wants perl.
hotplug also wants wc
dhcp3-client failed with some strange-looking script errors.
/etc/init.d/rcS failed, it needs cut.
There were further failures, but I'm pretty sure they follow from /usr 
not being mounted.
There was noting useful in /var/log


btw I expressed misgivings about booting to single-user mode. It's fine.

I am not well set up for capturing and transcribing these errors. I'm 
sure Daniel will have lotsa fun.
