ESD Issues

First off I love Ubuntu! Great work guys. Its an amazing piece of work
and I look forward to following the project with interest.

I've come across a little problem with sound, that I can rectify
manually but need to find a more permenant solution. When trying to play
audio via Totem it errors with:

OSS device "/dev/dsp" is already in use by another program.

I've tracked this down to the ESD process. If I kill that off then Totem
starts to work ok. I'm a bit of a linux newb learning the ropes and I do
not think this is Ubuntu specific but hope someone can advise.
