Locking packages in Synaptics broken?

I have currently a library installed from Debian (libsword4) as the
equivalent version from Ubuntu creates Segmentation faults - see also
the various Bibletime, Gnomesword threads)

I tried to lock the library to prevent automatic "upgrading" to ubuntu's
broken version, but locking the package only results in not being
visible in Synaptics list of modules "to be upgraded", it will be
"upgraded" anyway.

Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with Synaptics
